Guam introduces G-CNMI ETA electronic authorization
Under the updated Visa Waiver Program, beginning November 30, 2024, foreign nationals will be required to obtain an electronic entry permit - Guam-CNMI ETA- to enter Guam.
The new electronic entry authorization system replaces the previous procedure where a paper Form I-736 could be filled out at the border crossing. The Guam-CNMI ETA electronic authorization system greatly simplifies this process. The authorization can now be applied for in advance online. However, a paper I-736 registration form will still be accepted up to and including November 29.
The changes affect the 12 countries participating in the Guam and Northern Mariana Islands Visa Waiver Program: Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan (for direct flights from Taiwan to Guam only) and the United Kingdom.
Foreign nationals from these and other countries with a U.S. visa (including green card) or ESTA authorization will not need to obtain a Guam-CNMI ETA or file Form I-736 to enter Guam.
It is recommended that the ETA electronic authorization application be submitted at least seven days prior to departure, but not less than five days prior to travel. Once approved, the permit allows you to remain on the island for up to 45 days per visit, and there is no waiting time requirement between trips for subsequent entries. The permit is valid for two years or until the expiration of a passport with the possibility of multiple entries.
