Mauritania moves to e-visas: simplifying immigration processes for travelers

Mauritania is moving aggressively to digitalize its immigration processes, abolishing sticker visas and the need to visit embassies in person. Travelers from January 2025 will now be able to apply for e-visas through Mauritania's official website. This innovation will greatly simplify the visa application process, allowing travelers to receive their visa electronically before departing for the country.

Applicants will be able to choose the validity period of their e-visa for 30, 60 or 90 days. The application process will require personal details, contact information and the purpose of the visit, be it tourism, business, family, medical treatment, cultural or sporting events. It will also be necessary to indicate the desired number of entries into the country (single, double or multiple) and the date of arrival. To complete the process, you will need to upload a passport-sized photograph and a scanned copy of your passport with a minimum validity of six months after arrival.

To travel to Mauritania, citizens of most countries need to apply for an e-visa. However, nationals of the following countries are exempted from visa processing: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Libya, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia.

The system aims to reduce border delays and simplify immigration procedures, including the collection of biometric data at points of entry to speed up the process. This innovation will not only improve border security, but also make the visa application process more convenient for all travelers.
