South Korea's new work visa for digital nomads

South Korea plans to introduce a new type of visa for foreign nationals - a work visa for work stays from January 1, 2024. This will increase the attraction of professionals willing to work in the country for an extended period of time, in line with the global trend towards "workation". Workation ("working holiday" or "working vacation") makes it possible to work during a business trip or while traveling. Recently, some countries in Europe, Southeast Asia, Central and South America have also started to issue visas for digital nomads to meet the demands of the modern workflow.

The new work visa makes it much easier to work and travel in Korea for long periods of time and creates new prospects for the country's economy. The new work visa allows for a stay of up to one year in the country and can be extended for a further year. It will be available to those who work for foreign companies in the same industry for more than one year. The family members of these applicants can also obtain a work visa, with the exception of children over the age of 18. In order to apply for the visa, personal health and evacuation insurance worth more than 100 million won must be purchased.

Before applying for a new work visa, remember that it is prohibited to work for local companies or engage in commercial activities without a special work visa. Visa applications can be made at Korean embassies abroad. Foreigners temporarily staying in Korea can convert their visa into a work visa if they meet the requirements.

South Korea is moving with the times and taking important measures to attract and retain foreign workers in the country. The new working holiday visa program opens up new horizons and allows people to continue working while traveling in this amazing country.
