Student visa

Student visa - What is it?

As the name suggests, a student visa is a basic requirement in many countries outside the EU in order to attend a university as a foreign student. It can also be used for other types of educational stays, e.g. if you are spending a year abroad as a pupil. Studying abroad offers you the opportunity to explore the host country and its culture in a particularly intensive way. You will make new friends from all over the world and improve your foreign language skills. In addition, experience abroad often gives you a competitive edge over your competitors in your later professional life. Regardless of whether you complete a full degree abroad or study at the partner university of your home university as part of an exchange for a semester abroad - you can look forward to an unforgettable experience! With the right visa in your luggage, nothing stands in the way of your “Study Abroad”. You take care of your studies, we take care of your visa - including for:

  • China
  • Iran
  • India
  • Russia
  • Thailand

What requirements must be met for the visa application?

As with all visa types, the entry requirements for university students vary depending on the destination country. When applying for a visa, proof of admission to study must be provided. A simple letter such as a confirmation email from the university is usually not sufficient. Instead, the consulates or embassies of some countries require an official invitation letter, also known as a visa support letter or invitation letter. You will usually receive the student invitation letter from the school or educational institution in the host country for which you have been admitted. The Invitation Letter ensures that you are entering as a student and that the reason for your trip is no other. Of course, with a student visa you are allowed to spend your free time as you wish and, for example, go on excursions with your fellow students. However, if you are planning to take up work, for example, in order to secure your livelihood locally, you may need a work visa. What you are allowed or prohibited to do with a student visa is set out in the entry regulations of your destination country. Other visas, such as the tourist visa or the visitor visa, cannot be converted into a student visa at a later date. In addition to the invitation, the completed visa application, a valid passport and a current photo are among the most important documents for obtaining a permit for a long-term stay. In addition, some countries require proof of sufficient financial means, for example to cover tuition fees. We specify in detail which documents you need for each country in the visa order form. If you are planning to enter and leave the country several times, e.g. to spend the Christmas holidays at home, this should be taken into account when applying for a visa.

How long can I stay abroad as a student?

The period of validity of the student visa depends on the length of the planned study visit. It usually varies between one and several semesters. The decisive factor is always the period stated in your invitation letter. China, for example, differentiates between visas for stays of up to 90 or up to 180 days and residence permits for long-term study intentions. The period of validity for a student visa must be clarified on a case-by-case basis.
