Most foreign nationals require a visa to enter Kenya. From 2024, an electronic travel authorization (eTA) can be issued for tourist or business trips. The only exception is for citizens of the East African Community countries, who are only required to present an ID card.

Citizens of all countries, including Germany, must apply for an eTA to visit Kenya if they are planning a tourist or business trip.

For citizens of these countries, the eTA allows a stay of up to 90 days in Kenya, is issued online and requires a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

Citizens of all countries can apply for an EATV, which allows free movement between Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda for 90 days. The visa is only suitable for tourist travel and does not require a visit to a consulate.

Citizens of the East African Community countries can enter Kenya with an unvalidated ID card without a visa.

• Medical trips: letter from the referring doctor or hospital, appointment confirmation.
• Business trips: letter of invitation from the company, company registration documents.
• Family visits: invitation letter from the host, copy of the host's ID card or passport.
• Participation in a conference: registration confirmation or invitation letter for the event
• Diplomatic travel: diplomatic passport and an official letter from the country of origin or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
