The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced an innovative document verification system

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced an innovative document verification system designed to facilitate contactless travel and improve the passenger experience. The entire document verification process is now fully automated and provides personalized instructions for each passenger. To achieve this goal, the Timatic product has been completely redesigned and upgraded to Timatic AutoCheck. According to IATA, the enhanced system sets new standards for travel compliance by providing a user-friendly interface for accurate immigration information, which is beneficial for both travelers and professionals.

Passenger traffic is predicted to double by 2040. Therefore, the need to continuously optimize and improve processes at airports will receive special attention. One of the most time-consuming tasks is checking passengers' travel documents, the automation of which will be of the utmost importance. In addition, the new Timatic AutoCheck functions will also play an important role in supporting the industry in the transition to contactless travel.

A recent survey conducted by IATA found that 87% of travelers are willing to share their immigration details to speed up the immigration process at the airport. This represents an increase from 2022, when the figure was 83 percent. The survey also showed that 66 percent of travelers who need a visa prefer to apply for it online before traveling, 20 percent prefer to apply for it at consulates or embassies, and 14 percent prefer to apply for it at the airport.

Several companies such as Amadeus, Hititus and Sabre, as well as various airlines and the Star Alliance, are already working with IATA as part of the transition to the new Timatic AutoCheck system. Last month, Frankfurt became the first airport in Europe to offer all its passengers a completely contactless travel experience by using biometric facial recognition throughout the entire process from check-in to boarding.
