Israel launches mandatory electronic travel authorization ETA-IL from January 1, 2025
The trial period of the ETA-IL electronic travel authorization program to Israel is coming to an end soon. Introduced by the Population and Immigration Authority of Israel (PIBA), the program aimed to enhance security and streamline the entry process into the country.
The trial period that began on June 1, 2024, has been extended until the end of December 2024 for citizens of 99 visa-exempt countries and territories. During this time, visitors had the opportunity to voluntarily and free of charge apply for the travel authorization electronically.
Starting January 1, 2025, citizens of the following countries with visa-exempt status with Israel must obtain an ETA-IL before traveling to the country:
The ETA-IL permit will cost 25 shekels per visitor and will be valid for multiple trips within 2 years or until the expiration of the current passport. Permit holders will be able to visit Israel as tourists, for business, to visit family or friends, or for short-term studies (less than 90 days).
Applications for the ETA-IL permit can be submitted at any time before the trip to Israel, but it is recommended to do so at least 72 hours before booking flights, hotel rooms, and other similar expenses related to the trip. The process involves providing personal information, passport data, and trip details.
It is important to note that the ETA-IL permit does not automatically grant the right to enter Israel. Upon arrival at the border crossing, visitors will be checked by a border control officer who will determine whether the visitor is allowed entry into Israel.
Citizens who have obtained a new passport or changed their name or citizenship must apply for a new travel permit.
