Colombia simplifies entry by eliminating registration for foreign nationals
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a resolution that certain visitor visa holders no longer need to register with local authorities and apply for a local identity card in Colombia.
The category of foreign nationals who will no longer need to register includes holders of visitor visas (Visitor visas) in the subcategories of tourism, business, crew, events, diplomatic and international agreements.
Previously, travelers arriving in Colombia on a Visitor visa valid for more than three months were required to appear in person before immigration officials to register and apply for a local identification card in Colombia within 15 days of arrival (or within 15 days of visa approval if they were already in Colombia).
This change will reduce administrative barriers for foreign nationals visiting Colombia for short-term stays, who will no longer need to take this additional step after obtaining a visa.
