Mexico expands access to autonomous migration filters (FMAs) to more tourists
Mexico has announced the expansion of the Autonomous Migration Filters system (Filtros Migratorios Autónomos), which is now available to passport holders from 20 countries, including Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom. This innovation will significantly speed up the entry process into the country for foreign tourists.
Previously, FMA was only used by citizens of Mexico, Canada, Spain, and the United States. Now, holders of electronic passports from the listed countries can use self-service automated kiosks at the international airports of Mexico City and Cancun, as well as at the airports of San Jose del Cabo, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta.
To use the FMA system, several requirements must be met: have a regular electronic passport valid for more than 180 days, be over 18 years old, the purpose of the visit to Mexico must be purely tourist, and not travel with minors.
However, foreign citizens who are residents of Mexico or entering on a temporary residence visa are not recommended to use the FMA cabinets, as this may lead to the cancellation of their immigration status.
The process of passing through immigration control with the help of FMA is simple and fast. The passenger must find the corresponding kiosk, open the passport to the page with the photo, place it in the scanner, and pass through the gate, where a photo will be taken for verification. After checking the biographical and biometric data, the passenger will receive a ticket with a QR code and digital stamp, which needs to be scanned to upload the multiple migration form, which can be filled out anywhere within 90 days of arriving in the country.
The FMA system is free and does not require prior registration. It meets high security standards and ensures the protection of passengers' personal information. It is expected that the use of new technologies will significantly reduce waiting times in queues for tourists, making their stay in Mexico more comfortable.
