Myanmar officially announced the lifting of all restrictions related to Covid-19

On July 8, 2024, the Ministry of Health of Myanmar (Burma) officially announced the removal of all COVID-19-related health and epidemiological requirements for entry into the country.

In a statement published on the e-visa portal, Myanmar authorities said that in order to support the development of the tourism and trade sectors, the Ministry of Health has lifted the previous requirements for travelers entering Myanmar across the border. In particular, restrictions such as showing health insurance, temperature control, payment of testing, isolation and treatment costs have been lifted.

Officials explained that the decision was taken against the backdrop of successes in COVID-19 vaccination coverage and adaptation of the society to the new conditions. Due to these factors, they said, the incidence of COVID-19 virus in Myanmar and other countries has decreased significantly.

Earlier in March last year, Myanmar simplified its sanitary requirements for entrants, removing the need to show health insurance upon entry. Now the last restrictions that were in place at border crossings have been lifted.

It is worth noting that despite the removal of COVID-19 restrictions, the general rules of entry and the procedure for obtaining a visa to Myanmar remain unchanged. Most foreign nationals still need to obtain a visa to visit Myanmar, except for a limited number of countries with which Myanmar has visa-free travel. It is also highly recommended that you take out a health insurance policy before traveling to Myanmar. This can help protect you from unexpected medical expenses and provide peace of mind while traveling.
