Nigeria launches simplified e-visa process

The Nigeria Immigration Service will soon unveil a user-friendly e-visa system aimed at boosting economic growth and tourism. This was announced by the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service Kemi Nandap. She announced the imminent unveiling of an updated and more accessible electronic visa (e-Visa) application system for short stay.

In a statement, the head of the Immigration Service said the new system is designed to simplify visa procedures and encourage foreign direct investment as well as boost tourism in the country. Mrs Kemi Nandap emphasized the need to put in place effective internal control and monitoring mechanisms, especially in tracking the presence and activities of foreigners in Nigeria. The Comptroller General also reiterated her commitment to the full implementation of the e-border project, including the installation of electronic gates (e-Gate) at the Lagos and Abuja International Airports, as well as the integration of passenger advance information system.

Nigeria's Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo noted that the government was actively working to review the visa policy to improve accessibility. He emphasized the importance of effective visa administration in balancing ease of access and national security to help stimulate investment and attract tourists.

As a result of the reform, easier access to Nigeria for people from all over the world is expected, which can contribute to an increase in foreign passengers and consequently economic growth and increased investment in the country.
