Panama's visa-free regime: main changes

Panama has taken a significant step towards international tourism by significantly simplifying entry procedures for travelers from around the world. The new decree of the country's government, which came into effect immediately, marks an important stage in the development of the Central American country's tourism industry.

Under the new rules, travelers with valid visas or residence permits in countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States or any European Union country (including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Croatia, are eligible for visa-free entry to Panama. It is especially important to note that the visa must be:

• Multiple-entry
• Valid for at least six months at the time of entry
• Previously used in the country of issue

To ensure security and control, the Panamanian authorities have established a number of additional requirements for travelers:

• Proof of financial solvency (minimum $500)
• Valid passport (at least 3 months prior to expiration)
• Round-trip tickets
• A maximum stay of 30 days

Travel industry experts predict that the new policy could make Panama an even more attractive destination for travelers, especially those planning short familiarization trips.
