Kenya cancels visa for all visitors

Kenyan President William Ruto has announced the removal of visa requirements for all visitors from January 2024. Visas will now be required to enter Kenya as the government has introduced a digital platform. This innovative system will ensure that all visitors can obtain permission to enter the country electronically in advance, eliminating the need to apply for a visa.

The President made the announcement during an event to mark the 60th anniversary of Kenya's independence from Britain in the capital Nairobi. William Ruto has long campaigned for visa-free travel on the African continent. At a conference in the Republic of Congo in October, he said that African citizens would no longer need a visa to visit Kenya from the end of 2023.

The initiative is of strategic importance for the development of the tourism industry, which plays a key role in the country's economy. Kenya attracts tourists with its picturesque beaches on the Indian Ocean coast and exciting safaris through the country's wildlife. President Ruto concluded his speech with the greeting: "Kenya has a simple message to humanity: Welcome home!"
