Liberia officially launches e-visa on arrival for foreign travelers
In early March, Liberia officially introduced an electronic visa on arrival (e-Visa on Arrival). This initiative complies with international security and convenience standards, making trips to the country more accessible and comfortable for foreign citizens.
According to the new rules, foreign travelers wishing to visit Liberia for tourism, business or transit purposes can now take advantage of the convenient e-Visa on Arrival service. Visa applications must be submitted at least 7 days and no more than 30 days before departure.
The visa on arrival is valid for a single visit and can be issued for up to 30 days. The visa's validity period will be determined by the airport staff depending on the expected length of stay in the country. Travelers are advised to print the visa confirmation or save it on their mobile device for convenience. The Liberian Immigration Service reserves the right to reject visa applications.
Currently, e-Visa on Arrival is only available upon arrival at Roberts International Airport (ROB) in Monrovia. After successfully completing the application, travelers must present the visa confirmation form upon arrival at the airport, undergo biometric data collection, and receive a visa sticker in their passport.
However, not all foreign citizens can apply for e-Visa on Arrival:
- Citizens of ECOWAS member countries are exempt from this measure due to existing agreements in the region on free movement.
- Residents of countries where Liberian embassies are located cannot use the electronic visa on arrival. In particular, this applies to 23 countries, including Belgium, Cameroon, China, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Ghana, Guinea, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, UK, USA. They must apply for a visa directly at the embassy, not online.
The launch of the new e-Visa on Arrival system is an important step in Liberia's economic strategy, promoting trade, tourism, and international partnership. Simplifying the entry process for businessmen and tourists will open up new horizons for the country and its economy.
