New Zealand warns: delays in issuing visitor visas possible

The New Zealand government is warning of possible delays in processing visitor visas ahead of the high tourist season, which usually attracts a large influx of travellers.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is urging would-be visitors to apply for visas well in advance to avoid long waits and disruption to travel plans. It is predicted that over two hundred thousand applications are expected by the summer season, which can affect processing times.

Importantly, if you are planning to travel to New Zealand for the winter holidays or Chinese New Year's Eve, it is recommended that you submit your application by 15 November. According to immigration officials, applications submitted after this deadline may not be processed in time for the holidays, increasing the likelihood of travel disruption.

Last year, INZ already processed a significant number of applications, with almost half of them being specifically visitor visas. This year, the increase in tourist numbers has prompted the Director of Visa Services, Jock Gilray, to reiterate the need for early application.

INZ recommends applying through the official website. The online platform allows travellers to upload all necessary documents and check they are complete before submitting. This helps avoid potential delays, especially during the festive period.

The Immigration Service reminds that incomplete applications can increase processing times or lead to rejection. To increase the chances of receiving a visa in a timely manner, it is important to consider the following points:

  1. Having a valid passport: its validity must be three months beyond the date of departure.
  2. Passport scan: upload a clear, high-resolution scan of your passport's photo page.
  3. Attach documents proving temporary stay in the country.
  4. Carefully check all personal details in the application form to avoid possible discrepancies.
  5. All documents must be in English or with certified translations.

A visitor visa to New Zealand provides tourists with the opportunity to enjoy the country's views, visit friends and relatives, participate in cultural and sporting events, and explore unique natural areas.
