E-visa on arrival: Zimbabwe takes step to simplify entry for travelers

Zimbabwe has made changes to its visa policy to promote tourism and ease entry procedures. Travelers who needed to obtain a visa on arrival will now be able to apply for an e-visa on arrival prior to travel, making it much easier for them to enter the country.

The government has revamped the e-visa portal and introduced electronic visa on arrival in the format of electronic travel authorization (eTA). The authorities have restructured the e-visa and added a QR code for convenience.

Foreign nationals from 118 countries, including most European countries, can apply for an e-visa on arrival in advance of their visit to Zimbabwe. This simplified process is available for both tourists and business travelers.

To obtain an e-visa, nationals from the listed countries may complete an online application at least 72 hours before the date of travel. The visa will be issued on arrival at the point of entry, and applicants will receive information on visa validity directly at the time of application.

Travelers can pay for their e-visa online to reduce the waiting time upon arrival. There is also an option to confirm the application without paying in advance, then fees will need to be paid at the visa counter on arrival.

Zimbabwe's immigration authorities currently offer four types of e-visas on arrival:

  1. Single entry electronic visa on arrival for 1 month.
  2. Double entry e-visa on arrival for 3 months.
  3. The e-Visa KAZA Univisa on arrival is a single entry visa for 1 month valid for Zimbabwe and Zambia.
  4. Visitors who do not need a visa to travel to Zimbabwe can apply online for 'Visa Free Entry' to simplify the immigration process on arrival.

Having an electronic visa on arrival (electronic travel authorization - eTA) does not constitute final authorization to enter Zimbabwe. Eligibility for entry will be determined at the border crossing point. It is important to note that it is an offense to conduct any business or work in Zimbabwe without the appropriate visa.
