Electronic visa to Zimbabwe

Travelling to the heart of southern Africa is still an adventure today. EU citizens and German nationals are welcome in Zimbabwe, but a passport alone is not sufficient as an entry document.

The electronic visa to Zimbabwe (eVisa) is a convenient way to obtain authorisation to enter the country without visiting a consulate. The application is made online, making the process much easier for tourists, business travellers and those visiting Zimbabwe for other reasons.

To apply for an e-visa, you will need to provide a scan of your passport, a colour photograph, hotel booking confirmation or invitation from your host, and return tickets. It is important that the passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

Visas are usually processed within 7 working days, however times may vary. There are several types of visas: single entry, double entry and multiple entry, each of which has its own validity period and number of permitted entries. The KAZA UNIVISA visa allows you to visit several countries in the region.

If you are planning a trip to Zimbabwe, here you will find all the information about the requirements, rules and process of obtaining an e-visa. We offer a full range of visa services to make your journey as comfortable as possible.

What are the types of e-visas to Zimbabwe?

The type of visa required depends on the reason for your trip. There are visas for tourists, business travellers, visitors to the Kavango-Zambezi Nature and Landscape Reserve, conference participants and transit travellers. Visas are also offered for high school and college students, who should contact participating schools or colleges in advance for guidance and clarification.

Zimbabwe offers several types of electronic visas (eVisa), depending on the purpose of travel:

Tourist visa

Designed for travellers who plan to visit Zimbabwe for leisure or sightseeing purposes. It usually allows single or double entry into the country for up to 90 days. Proof of hotel booking or travel voucher will be required.

KAZA UNIVISA

This visa authorises single entry into Zimbabwe and Zambia and transit through Botswana. It is valid for 30 days and is suitable for travellers planning to visit more than one country in the region.

Business visa

It is issued for business travel such as meetings, conferences or negotiations. It authorises single or multiple entry into the country for an agreed period of time and is not renewable. The applicant must provide a letter of invitation from the host organisation or company and a description of its activities in Zimbabwe.

Transit visa

Suitable for those travelling through Zimbabwe on their way to another country. It allows you to stay temporarily in the country for a short period of time, usually no more than 48 or 72 hours. It is important to provide proof of continued travel, such as a ticket for the next flight.

Each type of visa requires an online application and relevant documents depending on the purpose of travel.

Visa validity period

All electronic visas are valid for 90 days during the period of issue. A tourist visa can be extended on request and can be used for multiple entries (multiple entry visas) on request. This is particularly useful for tourist trips with outings to neighbouring countries. In addition, for a round trip through the Kavango-Zambezi Nature and Landscape Reserve with overnight stays in Angola, Botswana and Namibia, this tourist visa option simplifies travel preparations.

The authoritative authority for all visa matters is the Zimbabwe Immigration Service, Department of Immigration, Linquenda House, Nelson Mandela Avenue, Harare. Government offices in the major cities of the country can also process visa extension and visa amendment applications.

What documents do I need to apply for a visa to Zimbabwe?

All visas require a passport photograph, a copy of the page in your passport with biometric data and proof of residence (proof of registration). If you have already been in the country on a visa, previous visas must be attached to your visa application. The documents to be submitted are related to the purpose of your trip. You need to document the purpose of your trip in your visa application and provide official documents supporting your statements.

If you are invited by locals, their identity and place of residence must be stated and documented. This will allow the Zimbabwean immigration authorities to understand who you are visiting and where you will be staying. Some travellers may find this difficult and inconvenient, but it is in line with international practice - hotels around the world are also required to pass on a guest list, including copies of guests' passports, to the relevant immigration authorities.

Business travellers should provide proof of their business and their partner's business in Zimbabwe. This will enable immigration authorities to understand the reason for travelling and distinguish imaginary reasons from genuine reasons. Since the Zimbabwe Immigration Department estimates that the processing time for e-visas is only one week, such accurate documentation on your part also successfully speeds up the procedure.
