Thailand will issue visas to foreigners who want to learn the art of Thai boxing
The Thai government is introducing a new initiative aimed at attracting people from abroad who are interested in the traditional martial art of Thai boxing, commonly known as Muay Thai. Under this initiative, foreign enthusiasts will be able to apply for a special visa that will allow them to explore the intricate world of this ancient discipline.
This innovative non-immigrant visa for educational purposes offers additional benefits compared to a typical tourist visa. Instead of the usual 60-day validity of a tourist visa, holders of the Muay Thai educational visa can extend their stay up to 90 days. This extended duration offers international martial arts enthusiasts the unique opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the techniques and cultural richness of Thai boxing.
Sretta Thavisin, the Prime Minister of Thailand, has expressed his support for this venture as he recognizes Muay Thai as an important element of the country's soft power. The government is actively promoting the sport to foreigners and has set up a dedicated website that provides comprehensive information on the training programs and courses available nationwide.
A key aspect of this initiative is the establishment of standards for the training and accreditation of Thai boxing instructors. This will ensure the widespread dissemination of this distinctive martial art and its culturally significant history.
The new visa not only facilitates foreigners to improve their Thai boxing skills, but also provides an opportunity to explore the complex traditions, historical nuances and cherished values of this fascinating facet of Thai culture.
