Legalization of documents for Thailand
Legalizing documents to Thailand can sometimes be difficult. Thailand is not a signatory to the Hague Convention, so it is not possible to apostille Thai or German documents and you have to take a longer route to obtain a certificate of authenticity. You go to various authorities in Germany with documents, a copy of which is simply not recognized. This document must now be translated into English or Thai. If you translate the document into English, it has to be notarized by a notary and then by the local court. Only then will the Thai embassy accept the documents. If the document has been translated into Thai by a sworn translator, the translations must be securely attached to the originals. An additional visit to the local court is not required.
Special testing procedure
But Thailand also works closely with the Foreign Office. A simplified authentication procedure has been agreed for special documents and certificates. In this case, the embassy checks the authenticity directly together with the competent authority. However, this can lead to longer processing times.
