Apply for Laos visa online now

The Laos Visa is divided into several subcategories depending on your travel purpose. Depending on the reason for your trip, you will need a different visa to enter Laos or visit the capital Luang Prabang. Because the application requirements vary by category, it is important to determine the type of visa in advance. The Laotian Embassy in Berlin distinguishes:

  • Tourist Visa T-B3: This visa can be obtained both before your trip at the consulate and upon arrival (Visa on arrival). If you apply for it, you do not need proof of a travel confirmation. The T-B3 allows you to stay for up to 30 days after entry. If issued before departure by the embassy, the visa is valid for short tourist visits starting from the day of issue for 3 months. There is no possibility to extend the visa on site.
  • Visitor Visa NI-B3: The NI-B3 is basically similar to the tourist visa, but allows stays of up to 30 days. It can be extended once in Laos if needed. You can only apply for a visitor visa if you have an official travel confirmation from Laos.
  • Business Visa NI-B2: The Business Visa allows business trips of up to 30 days. It can be extended on site. To obtain this type of Laos visa, proof of a travel confirmation or the reference (invitation) from a Laotian business partner is required. We help you reliably apply for the business visa.

Temporary Changes to the Visa Policy in Laos

For the period from July 1 to December 31, 2024, Laos has temporarily changed its visa policy to make it easier for foreign visitors to travel and grant them more freedom during their stay.

The key changes:

  • Laos grants visa-free entry for 15 days to tourists from China, including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, traveling in officially registered groups.

  • For citizens of the European Union (including Germany), Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and Russia, the length of stay with a multiple-entry visa has been extended from 30 to 60 days. Single entry for 60 days is possible with a visa on arrival or online.

  • Tourists from Thailand and Vietnam can stay in Laos for up to 10 and 15 days, respectively, with certain documents. However, they can only visit three provinces near their original point of entry and must exit through the same border crossing.

  • Nationals from Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Spain, and Greece can take advantage of the simplified entry procedure, allowing them to visit the country visa-free for up to 15 days on their first tourist visit.

For more information about Laos' new visa policy, please refer to the article About Laos' New Visa Policy, which provides a detailed description of the conditions and requirements for travelers wishing to visit the country.
