New Thailand Visa for Digital Nomads - Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)
Great news for remote workers and digital nomads who dream of living and working legally in Thailand.
Thailand has announced the launch of a new long-term tourist visa, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), which will allow its holders to stay in Thailand and work remotely for companies or clients located in other countries legally.
So, on May 28, 2024, the Thai government announced significant changes to visa policy to boost tourism and the economy. Among them is an upgrade to the “digital nomad” visa, which was previously issued for 60 days and allowed a one-time extension of 30 days.
The new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is valid for five years but allows foreign nationals to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 180 days per entry. If necessary, you can extend your stay once for a maximum of 180 days without leaving the country by paying a visa fee of 10,000 Thai baht. This makes DTV more convenient for extended travel and work in Thailand.
This type of visa is intended for the following categories of persons:
- Highly skilled professionals (foreign talent) who can make a significant contribution to the local economy and industry.
- Digital nomads and freelancers who seek flexibility in work and life and who wish to work from anywhere in the world.
- Remote workers who prefer not to be tied to a single workplace and appreciate the opportunity to combine work with travel.
- Travelers with special interests who are in search of unique cultural experiences.
One of the significant advantages of the DTV visa is the ability to include family members in the program. Legal spouses and children under the age of 20 are eligible for the same visa, allowing families to stay together during their stay.
At this time, the following key conditions have been established for the DTV visa:
- The required minimum age for the applicant is 20 years old;
- The applicant must provide financial documents showing that he/she has at least 500,000 Thai Baht in his/her account for the entire period of stay in Thailand.
It is also possible to change the visa type within the country according to preliminary data. It is important to take into account that in this case the current visa status will cease to be valid.
The new DTV visa to Thailand is a real gift for those who dream of a free life working remotely. It offers unique benefits that make it attractive to digital nomads:
- Low income requirements: income requirements are significantly lower than other Asian countries offering visas for digital nomads.
- Combination of work and travel: the DTV visa allows you to combine work and travel, to explore Thailand's stunning nature and rich culture.
- Ability to take your family: you can bring your family with you and enjoy life in a tropical paradise.
A DTV visa can also be a great trial option before deciding to apply for long-term types of visas for permanent residency. It allows you to see if living in the tropics is right for you and to assess your financial options.
Due to the fact that the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) project process began in June, information on the process of obtaining it is still limited and specific details of visa requirements are still being finalized. The government's Public Relations Department is expected to provide full details and final rules by the end of June 2024.
