Tourism development in China: relaxation of the visa-free transit policy

To restore the tourism sector, China has announced an update to its visa-free transit policy. This important innovation allows travelers passing through the country to stay for a limited time without the need for a visa.

The visa-free transit policy aims to stimulate both tourism and business activities, providing foreign citizens the opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and enjoy the country's attractions during layovers.

Now citizens of 54 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Russia, and Germany, can take advantage of the new visa-free transit opportunities. According to recent changes made by China's National Immigration Administration (NIA), the stay period for foreign citizens eligible for visa-free transit has been extended to 240 hours (10 days), significantly exceeding the previous 144 hours. This extension opens up new horizons for travelers, allowing them to spend more time in the country without a transit visa.

Also, 21 new ports of entry and exit have been added to the list of permitted zones for transit travelers . Citizens from 54 countries can now enter China without a visa through one of 60 open ports located in 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. This innovation makes traveling in China more accessible and convenient, offering tourists a unique opportunity to explore the country while transiting to a third country.

To take advantage of the visa-free transit regime in China, travelers must meet several conditions. First, they must have a valid passport, which will be checked upon entry into the country. Second, they must be en route to a third country or region, which implies having confirmed tickets for the onward journey. Finally, it is important that arrival and departure take place through one of the 60 designated ports.

These changes are aimed at attracting more tourists and promoting international cooperation. Simplifying visa requirements contributes to an increase in the flow of tourists and strengthens mutual understanding between peoples. Now travelers can not only enjoy the beauty of China but also use the country as a convenient transit point on their way to their further destinations.
