Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

ETA (Electronic travel authorization) is an electronic travel authorization for citizens of visa-free countries, which was introduced in 2023 and is now mandatory for 6 eastern states. From November 2024, the UK will introduce mandatory ETA authorization for a further 83 countries whose nationals are exempt from the short-term visa requirement. The phased timetable assumes the start of e-permit registration on November 27, 2024 for 49 countries (Asia, South America, North America and others), and March 5, 2025 for 34 European countries.

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) provides the ability to:

• Come to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study.
• Stay in the UK for up to 3 months on a concessionary creative worker visa.
• To undertake a paid internship authorized in the UK.
• Transit the UK, including when you are not passing through the country's border controls.

An ETA is not required if you have:

• A valid UK visa.
• Permission to live, work or study in the UK, including permanent or provisional permanent residence status under the EU Permanent Residence Program.
• A British or Irish passport.
• A British Overseas Territories passport.
