Visas and e-Vsas to Lebanon

When planning a trip to Lebanon, it is important to clarify in advance the current visa requirements. The need to apply for a visa to this country depends directly on the nationality and purpose of the visit.

Lebanon has different entry rules for foreign nationals:

Visa-free entry / free visa on arrival

According to Lebanon's current visa regime, holders of ordinary passports of certain countries and territories, including Germany and the rest of the European Union member states, can enter Lebanon with a free visa on arrival for a maximum of 30 days, renewable for 2 months. Such a visa can be obtained at Beirut International Airport and other entry points provided that there is proof of residence in Lebanon (hotel reservation) and a return ticket, and that there are no Israeli stamps in the passport. This visa allows short-term tourist trips to Lebanon not exceeding 30 days on a single occasion.

Valid identity documents for entry

German citizens can enter Lebanon with a personal passport (temporary) and a children's passport. The travel document must be valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry.

It is worth noting that obtaining a visa on arrival always carries a higher risk of denial of entry. Therefore, we recommend that you apply for a visa to Lebanon in advance. You should also note that a visa on arrival can only be obtained free of charge at Beirut airport. Other entry points into Lebanon may charge an additional fee.

Visa to Lebanon

To apply for a visa to Lebanon, all applicants must go to the Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Lebanon to submit an application and pay the consular processing fee.

For countries whose nationals can obtain a visa on arrival, it is possible to apply for a visitor visa in advance without providing supporting documents. However, they will still need to pay the visa processing fee.

For citizens of both visa and non-visa countries planning a longer stay in Lebanon, including for the purpose of work, study or other activities, as well as those applying for Lebanese citizenship, it is necessary to apply for a visa in advance.

More detailed information about the types of visas to Lebanon, as well as a detailed list of visa and visa-free countries can be found in the section Visas.

Health and safety: immunizations for travel to Lebanon

When planning a trip to Lebanon, health and safety, including vaccination issues, is an important consideration. Vaccination is not a prerequisite for entry into Lebanon, and it is not necessary to present certificates at the border.

However, the World Health Organization recommends vaccination against hepatitis A and other common infections such as typhoid, especially for people planning to travel to less developed areas.

It should also be recognized that seasonal vaccinations, such as influenza, may be recommended at certain times of the year, especially for children and the elderly.

The need for rabies vaccination depends on your planned activities, especially if you intend to spend time outdoors or come into contact with animals.

Thus, it is recommended that you consult your doctor about the necessary vaccinations and complete a pre-travel immunization course before traveling.

It is also important to monitor the local epidemiological situation, as some regions may experience outbreaks of infectious diseases. Travelers are advised to carry a first aid kit with basic medicines and know where the nearest medical facilities are located.

Early vaccination and preparation will help ensure a safe trip and minimize health risks.

Required documents

  • Passport. Make sure the child's passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Lebanon.
  • Visa. A separate visa must be obtained for the child.
  • Birth Certificate. A child's birth certificate is mandatory and may be needed to prove parentage and age.
  • Travel Consent:

Unaccompanied: if the child is traveling unaccompanied, notarized consent from both parents is required, stating the departure date and destination country.

With one parent: If the child is traveling with one parent, notarized consent from the other parent is required, also stating the time frame and country of destination.

  • Health certificate. It is recommended to have a certificate of immunizations of the child, especially if the child has chronic diseases.
  • Health Insurance. It is recommended to have health insurance for the entire period of stay in Lebanon that covers treatment abroad.
  • Copies of documents. Make copies of all documents, including passports, visas and travel consents, in case they are lost. Also check in advance which documents may require translation and notarization for legitimacy in Lebanon.

Health and safety advice

Medical training also plays an important role. Make sure your children's immunizations are up to date, especially the Hepatitis A vaccination. This disease can be common in some regions of Lebanon. Talk to your pediatrician about the possibility of vaccination against other infections if you plan to visit remote or rural areas.

A travel first aid kit is an essential item for traveling with children. Include basic medications such as antipyretics, allergy medications, bandages, antiseptics, and digestive aids. It's also helpful to add motion sickness remedies if your kids are sensitive to the road.

When planning a trip, it's worth considering your children's interests. Choose safe places to stay and research restaurant reviews to avoid food issues. Allow enough time for rest so that children can adapt to the new climate and environment.
