Visa-free entry to China: new opportunities for travelers from November 30, 2024
On November 22, 2024, China announced new changes to its pilot visa-free entry policy aimed at simplifying the entry process for citizens of a number of foreign countries. The new rules will take effect on November 30, 2024 and will remain in effect until December 31, 2025.
As part of the decision, China:
- Expands the list of countries eligible for visa-free travel. Foreign nationals from 38 countries, including Germany, as well as new entrants such as Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia and Japan, will now be able to visit the country without a visa. Previously, in early November, China had already expanded the list.
- Increases the period of stay in China for citizens of these countries to 30 days, significantly exceeding the previously established limit of 15 days.
- Introduces the possibility of visa-free entry for exchange visits.
Thus, from November 30, 2024, foreign nationals from Germany and 37 other countries will be able to stay in China without a visa for 30 days for business or tourist purposes, as part of exchanges, to visit relatives or transit.
It is important to note that if the purpose of the visit is different, for example if study or work is planned, obtaining a visa before entering the country will remain mandatory.
These changes in visa policy emphasize China's desire to actively cooperate with international partners and are aimed at strengthening ties and developing tourism in the country.
