Apply for a work visa in Sri Lanka

Working in Sri Lanka - only with a valid work visa

Are you planning a change of scenery and coming to Sri Lanka for employment? To work in this island nation, you will need a valid work visa. It can only be obtained before the trip from the diplomatic missions of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, not through the electronic visa procedure (ETA).

We are ready to take care of the entire official process at the Embassy of Sri Lanka. A work visa for Sri Lanka can be ordered through our booking form (Apply for a visa) with just a few clicks. Once we have all the necessary documents, we will take care of all the mandatory steps.

Documents for Visa Application

If you are planning to work in Sri Lanka, provide the following documents:

  • Fully completed visa application with stated purpose of the trip
  • 2 colored passport photos (biometric)
  • Your original passport
Please note that on the day of entry, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months and have at least 1 blank page. If your ID document does not meet these criteria, request a new one from the municipal or city administration.
  • Letter from the German employer (original)
  • Confirmation of your trip reservation

In addition to your personal documents, you also need permission from the Controller of Immigration and Emigration (CI&E) in Colombo. Ask your future employer to contact the CI&E for permission to issue the visa. Only after this permission is provided to the Sri Lankan embassy, the visa stamp will be placed in your passport.

What is the duration of a work visa in Sri Lanka?

Representatives of Sri Lanka issue long-term visas with a maximum stay of 90 days. Travelers have the opportunity to extend their visa in advance at the Immigration Service Center or at the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo. To apply for an extension on-site, you need to provide three passport photos and recommendation letters from the employer and the relevant ministry. For more information, please contact the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin, Consulate in Frankfurt, or the Immigration Service Center.
