What needs to be considered for project-related visas?
Do you have the necessary professional qualifications and are you planning to work in India on a project basis on behalf of your employer? You will need a number of documents to submit your visa application. This usually includes:
- Formal letter of invitation from an Indian company specifying the assignment to the foreign company and including the following details: Name, purpose and location of the project (village, town, district), duration of the contract, name and address of the foreign company engaged, number and qualification (professional qualification) of the foreign project workers
- a formal letter of assignment from the German company, stating the nature and purpose of the project, the tasks of the local employees, their qualifications and the duration of their stay
- Letter of Incorporation from the Indian company
- Declaration of responsibility from the Indian client addressed to the Indian mission, guaranteeing responsibility for the project, the behavior of the foreign visitors and compliance with visa deadlines
- Certificates of the applicant as proof of professional qualification.
The information provided by both parties should match. In addition, when submitting the application, proof must usually be provided that the costs of the project have been covered. English is the prescribed written language for the documents. All letters must be submitted to the Indian missions abroad in Germany together with other documents. The Indian embassy decides on project visa applications on a case-by-case basis, which is why processing may take longer than for other visa categories. So that you do not lose track of the many requirements for the visa application, you will receive a checklist of the documents you need to submit after the order process.
For how long is the visa valid?
The period of validity of the project visa depends on the scope of the project or the information provided by the companies involved in the secondment letter and invitation. The Indian authorities specify 6 months or 1 year as the issuing period for project visas. Consequently, holders of a project visa for India have the opportunity to work and travel in India for several weeks or months. Please note our information on registration in India if you are planning a stay of more than 180 days.
