Malaysia's visa regime defines the requirements under which foreign nationals can enter, stay and remain in the country. Most visitors to Malaysia are able to enter without a visa for 90, 30 or 14 days, depending on nationality. However, some citizens need to obtain a visa in advance from Malaysia's diplomatic missions before entering the country. All visitors must have a passport valid for at least 6 months.

Malaysia provides different types of visas including student visa, work visa, business visa and tourist visa. In addition, there are other types of visas such as the digital nomad visa and the electronic visa (E-Visa). Each of these visa types has its own characteristics and requirements.

The authorized period of stay without a visa depends on your nationality.

Every entrant must obtain a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card before arrival. Obtaining a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is mandatory for all foreign nationals and will help ease the border control process and speed up your check-in upon arrival in the country. If you plan to stay in Malaysia for more than the authorized period of time, you may need a visa run (visa run, border run). To do this, you can leave the country (e.g. travel to Singapore or Thailand) and then return. However, frequent use of visa run may result in denial of entry (it is not recommended to use this method more than once or twice).

The price of a visa to Malaysia depends on your nationality, the type of visa, and the urgency of its processing. Visa-free entry for 14 days is also available to holders of Macao Special Administrative Region travel permits, regardless of their nationality.

Nationals of Albania, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Bahrain, Botswana, China, Dominican Republic, India, Iran (15 days), Pakistan, Tajikistan, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and Uruguay holding diplomatic or official/service passports for 30 days (unless otherwise stated) do not require a visa to enter Malaysia, but they must first request an entry permit at any entry point to enter Malaysia. In addition, nationals of Brunei and Singapore who hold diplomatic or official/service passports do not require a visa for 90 days, while all other ASEAN Member States have a visa-free stay of 30 days, but no entry permit is required under the ASEAN Visa Waiver Agreement.

All other nationals must obtain a visa to enter Malaysia. Also, if you want to stay in the country for a longer period of time, you need to get a long term visa. You must have all the necessary documents to be allowed into the country.
