China introduces visa-free entry for 15 countries in 2024
China is introducing a visa-free entry policy for citizens of 15 countries from July 2024. The initiative, valid until 31 December 2025, aims to promote tourism and personnel exchanges with European and other key countries.
Details of the visa-free entry policy
Under the new policy, passport holders from Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia and Poland can enter China without a visa. They are allowed to stay in the country for up to 15 days for business, tourist or transit purposes.
Conditions and requirements
The 15-day stay starts from the day of entry and includes the day of arrival. Travellers must leave China by the end of the 15th day. If visitors from these countries want to stay longer than 15 days, they must apply for a visa at a Chinese consulate or embassy before travelling.
For those who are already in China under the visa-free regime and want to extend their stay, there is an option to apply for a temporary stay permit. The application should be submitted to the Office of the Department of Public Security within 15 days if there is a valid reason for the extension.
Preparing for travel
Travellers planning to take advantage of the visa-free regime should make sure they have all the necessary documents for unhindered entry. Essential documents include:
- A valid passport
- Business invitation letter (if applicable)
- Airline tickets
- Confirmation of hotel reservation
Having these documents helps to verify the identity of the traveller and the purpose of their visit, making the entry process more efficient.
The visa-free policy is designed to attract more tourists and business travellers, boosting the tourism sector and promoting economic growth. By simplifying the entry process, China aims to increase the number of visitors and expand cultural and economic exchanges with these countries. This initiative is especially important after the global travel disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
