Sri Lanka's new visa regime: visa-free entry for 35 countries
Sri Lanka introduces visa-free entry for German nationals from October 1, 2024.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Sri Lanka has taken a major decision by announcing the introduction of visa-free entry for citizens of 35 countries including Germany. This innovation will come into effect on October 1, 2024 and will be valid for six months. Under the new program, tourists will be able to apply for a tourist visa for up to 30 days without any fee, greatly simplifying the process of entering the country.
Sri Lanka's Tourism Ministry advisor Harin Fernando said the measure is aimed at attracting more travelers and promoting the country as an attractive tourist destination. The move is expected to boost tourist arrivals and strengthen Sri Lanka's economy. The simplification of visa procedures will create more opportunities for foreign visitors to enjoy Sri Lanka's unique nature, cultural heritage and hospitality.
As part of this strategy, one of the key initiatives is to transform Sri Lanka into a visa-free state, similar to Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. This will not only simplify the entry process for foreign visitors, but will also enhance the country's competitiveness in the tourism market by promoting economic development and cultural exchanges.
