Since foreign visitors to the Russian Federation are subject to a visa requirement, entry without a valid permission corresponding to the purpose of the trip is not allowed. Every student is obliged to submit a visa application to the Russian embassy or consulate before the trip. An entry is made in the passport. To apply for a student visa, an invitation, also known as a Visa Support Letter, from the host country is required. The invitation letter serves as proof that your stated purpose of travel is truthful. The letter contains a reference number that should be indicated when filling out the visa application. The student invitation is provided by the university, college, or educational institution where you are enrolled. Private entities in Russia have the option to apply for an invitation from the Federal Migration Service (FMS).

Types of Student Visas

Student Group A

has an invitation stating cultural or humanitarian exchange as the purpose of stay. This type of entry permit is referred to as Student Exchange Visa in our order form. Consular fees are waived, only a service charge is to be paid.

Student Group B

has an invitation letter stating "Student", "Study", or "учёба" as the purpose of travel. Please select the visa type Student Visa in the order form if you have a corresponding invitation.

What validity do study visas have?

The Russian authorities issue visas for study stays with a validity of up to 90 days for single or double entry.

The actual length of stay and the number of entries depends on the information in the invitation.

Whether an extension of the student visa is possible on-site needs to be clarified on a case-by-case basis with the consular missions abroad or preferably with the local migration authority on-site. Multiple visas are usually only available for the duration of a study contract and for a maximum of one year.
