Work visa for Russia

For some, a work stay in Russia is essential, for others a welcome change of scenery and the fulfillment of a dream. In both cases, a work visa is required to take up employment in the Russian Federation. Without an entry permit corresponding to the purpose of the trip, foreign visitors are strictly prohibited from any form of employment on site. The visa type work visa also includes Visas for Highly Qualified Individuals.

If you intend to take up a job in Russia, you are required to submit a visa application to the Russian consulate or embassy before your trip. Once the application is approved, you will receive the work visa in your passport.

In addition to personal documents such as application form, passport, passport photo, insurance certificate, etc., the consular departments require an employment invitation from the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (FMS) or one of its regional offices in original. The document is known as the FMS invitation. To obtain the invitation letter, it is necessary to submit an application to one of the relevant authorities in Russia. Typically, the inviting employer or company in Russia takes care of these - often time-consuming - formalities.

For your stay with the work visa, there is a registration requirement after 7 working days. The hosting person or accommodation is responsible for your registration. Read more about registration in Russia.

Ordering a work visa including FMS invitation:

In all cases, you are allowed multiple entries and exits.

• up to 365 days stay per year
• up to 2 years stay
• up to 3 years stay

Please note that when applying for a work visa for 365 days including an invitation from Book-your-Visa.com, your passport must still be valid for at least 3 years on the day of application. For the 3-year Russian work visa, a minimum validity of 3 years and 7 months is required, as the identification document must still be valid for at least 6 months at the expiration of the visa.

If you order a visa with an existing invitation, please make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond the visa validity. It takes about 30 working days to request visa support through us. The invitation is valid from the date of issue, e.g. 1 year for a yearly visa. Therefore, it is advisable not to apply for invitation letters and visas too early, as a significant part of the visa validity will already be "used up" before entering Russia. Usually, it is unproblematic to extend short-term travel permits (e.g. stay of 90 days) on-site if a valid service or employment contract is available.
