Registration in Kazakhstan
Obligation for foreigners to register in Kazakhstan
Foreign travelers in Kazakhstan are required to register on the spot. Usually, a deadline of 5 days after entry applies for registration. For German visitors and the citizens of some other countries, a simplified registration is possible at the 12 international airports in Kazakhstan.
Simplified registration for German air travelers
With the simplified registration procedure, you will receive a second stamp on your white migration card immediately when crossing the border at the airport. You will receive the card before departure from the Kazakh diplomatic missions (Kazakh Embassy or consulates), from the crew on the plane or from the border officials upon arrival.
Please note: airport registration is only valid for stays of up to 90 days and a single entry. All longer visits to Kazakhstan without an interim departure require a (re)registration.
Regular registration procedure for all border crossings, stays of more than 90 days and visas with invitation
If you enter Kazakhstan at a border crossing other than an international airport, the 5-day period still applies. You have five calendar days after entry to register with a local migration or police authority. For tourists, hotels usually take care of the registration formalities. Please check with your accommodation in advance to see if it is authorized to do so.
If your visa was issued on the basis of an invitation from a host in Kazakhstan, it is important that the host visits the authority and presents his registration certificate. If, for example, you are traveling on a business visa, your Indian business partner will usually carry out the passport registration for you and take responsibility for your visit.
What documents do you need for registration?
Regardless of when and where you register, you will need your passport with a valid visa and the white migration card. If a host is coming to Kazakhstan to register you or accompany you, they will usually need their proof of residence.
What can be expected if the person does not register?
Travelers who do not register properly in Kazakhstan may be subject to fines or other sanctions such as expulsion.
Is it necessary to unsubscribe?
No, you will automatically deregister when you leave the country and hand in your white migration card.
What other rules apply to stays in Kazakhstan?
Foreign visitors to Kazakhstan are required to carry their original passport with the visa and the white migration card as proof of registration at all times. It is essential to avoid exceeding the visa validity. According to Kazakh law, travelers without a valid residence permit face fines and imprisonment. Please also note that it is usually not permitted to photograph military buildings and civil airports in Kazakhstan.
