Visa for permanent residence in Kazakhstan - what does that mean?

The entry visa for Kazakhstan is classified as an immigration visa. The Kazakh immigration authorities refer to it as a visa type for permanent residence, which does not automatically equate to an unlimited residence permit. Three entry visas for Kazakhstan

Visa J1

The Visa category J1 is intended for applicants born in Kazakhstan who intend to relocate to their country of birth. The entry permit allows for multiple entries (multiple visa). Visa validity and maximum stay duration are both 1 year.

Visa J2

Foreigners without Kazakh descent planning to move to the landlocked country between the Caspian Sea and the Altai Mountains receive Permission J2. The entry visa J2 is valid for a maximum of 90 days and allows for a single entry.

Visa J3

The Kazakh authorities issue Type J3 to former Kazakh compatriots and citizens of certain countries who have already applied for a residence permit in Kazakhstan. The visa is available for single, double, and triple entry. It has a validity of 90 days.

What is the difference between the visa categories?

While holders of the J3 request a residence permit, the variants J1 and J2 are a prerequisite for the granting of an unlimited settlement permit in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
