Distribution of study visas by purpose of travel

Kazakh entry authorities and foreign representations distinguish two subcategories of the study visa, also known as student visa, education visa and internship visa.

Education Visa L1: Admission for Traditional Educational Institutions

The travel permit L1 is issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to individuals who:

are admitted to study or take entrance exams at a Kazakh educational institution
participate in preparatory courses
complete a secondary or higher education program
plan to pursue postgraduate studies in Kazakhstan
enter under a student exchange program

Educational visa L2: with existing internship placement

The internship visa L2 is intended for applicants who are completing an internship in Kazakhstan. It does not matter whether it is a study or work internship, i.e. it is not mandatory to be enrolled as a student.

Validity and permitted length of stay

The visa validity depends on the length of the planned further training measure or the invitation issued by the school, university or your employer in Kazakhstan. In general, the authorities distinguish between the following durations:

L1 for students, L2 for interns

for single, double and triple entry, valid for 90 days, up to 3 months stay
for multiple entries with a validity and length of stay of up to 1 year

Please note that usually only applicants born in Kazakhstan receive a multi-visa for 1 year.
